Wine tasting walking tour in Narbonne 

Narbonne forms a crossroads of the coastal road from the Rhône to Barcelona, as well as the Canal du Midi, railway line and motorway that all head west to Carcassonne, Toulouse and Bordeaux. So it’s a great place to stay overnight – or longer – as you travel around southern France and Spain.

 

The history here is fascinating and written all over the town, including Heracles’ ancient road, Roman remains, medieval cathedrals, a 17th Century canal, 1907 riot memorabilia, belle époque façades, murals of Charles Trenet from the 40s and modern art.

 

It’s also beautifully placed for wine – between the hot Corbières hills and the windy coastal mountains of La Clape, with lagoons to the north and rocky garrigues of Roussillon to the south, the Narbonnais part of the Languedoc produces some of France’s most interesting bottles.
