Grüner Veltliner
Although Grüner Veltliner is now being planted all over the world, I suggest that we all get a version from Austria – most of the bottles available in the shops come from Niederösterreich, which is probably the best region for what we’re looking for. It’s nearly always made in a still, dry style so I don’t think you can go wrong there. Try to get a bottle from 2015-2018..

For your merlot wine I suggest you buy a right bank Bordeaux, which are often 95% merlot.
